Q: What is required to book you for my wedding?
A: I request a 50% deposit to secure your date, along with a signed contract.
Q: Where are you located, and would you be willing to travel to paint my wedding in a different city?
A: I am based in Baton Rouge, La. and would be more than happy to travel for your wedding! Travel costs, such as airfare and hotels will be at the client’s expense. Local weddings (within 25 miles of Baton Rouge) do not require travel compensation. Events that are not local, but are within driving distance will require compensation based on distance.
Q: Can I request certain people to be in the painting?
A: Of course! Odds are that I will not be able to recognize your specific guests, so I ask that you assign a patron to point out your chosen guests to me during the reception. After the happy couple, I have a set limit of painting an additional five recognizable people. Additional recognizable people may be added for an extra fee.
Q: My venue will only let you start setting up an hour before my party. Will that be enough time?
A: Though arriving two hours in advance is ideal, I only need about twenty minutes to get everything set up to start painting. I have been able to produce finished looking paintings over the course of a four-hour reception with less than an hour to set up and begin before the event. Anything not completed by the end of the evening will be finished in my studio.
Q: Will you require any special provisions from the venue?
A: My set-up is minimal and usually does not require assistance. I will arrange with the venue staff a small painting area (approx. 4′ x 6′) close to an power outlet (for my easel light) and with a good view of the scene I’ll be painting. I’ll also need to be able to properly dispose of my painty water.
Q: What type of paint/ materials do you use?
A: I paint with high quality water-based acrylic paint on stretched canvas. The paint is non-toxic and extremely quick-drying allowing for easy clean-up and transport of the painting after the event.
Q: What does your set-up look like?
A: The set-up is quick and simple. Typically, I bring a portable wooden easel to the event, along with a medium sized rolling case full of my painting supplies. I always wear a black dress. I never want my business to be an eye-sore, therefore I take precautions to ensure my materials do not clash with the wedding atmosphere or decorations.
Q: My ceremony will only be half an hour long. Can you still paint it live?
A: Since ceremonies are so short, and captivate 100% of your guests attention, it would be ideal for me to arrive as early as early as possible to paint the background before the ceremony. I usually paint as much as I can during the ceremony while taking several photographs for reference. Then, during the reception, I’ll paint from my reference photos as your guests watch the painting of your ceremony progress while they’re enjoying the party. If I cannot stay for the reception, I’ll finish your painting in my studio based on the photographs I’d taken at your wedding.
Q: My wedding was last year! Can you do a painting from a photograph?
A: Sorry I missed it! I would be happy to create a customized painting for you based on photo or video documentation of your wedding. Please keep in mind that professionally taken photographs provide the best quality image to use as a reference for your painting. We will work together to choose a size and style that fits your needs.
Q: When do I get my painting following the wedding?
A: Depending on the options you choose, and the amount of detail and touch ups applied in the studio, your painting will be made available for pickup within two to four weeks after the day of the wedding. I’d be happy to personally deliver the painting within 25 miles of my studio. If you are not located locally, I’d be happy to provide you with a quote to ship it directly to you. Shipped paintings usually arrive within five to seven days (within the continental U.S.).
Q: Speaking of packages, do you offer any bonus packages or special deals?
A: Included with each painting is a package that includes: professional documentation of your painting that can be used to create archival-quality prints, thank-you cards or matted photo prints, a certificate-of-authenticity, a hanging guide, and care and maintenance instructions. The painting will be fitted with hanging hardware for easy installation.
