With cooler weather setting in, we rummage our closets for our favorite oversized sweaters and worry a little less about melting our makeup when we step outside. While we wave goodbye to summer activities like swimming and beach volleyball, we embrace a more relaxing vibe with picnics and camping. Autumn is a beautiful time of year: leaves change color and rain down with the slightest breeze, making you feel as if you’re shooting the September issue of Vogue (I can’t be the only one). Pumpkin Spice Lattes are widely available again. And cooler nights mean pulling your partner a little closer to keep warm. You may begin changing your date ideas to more indoor activities to account for the weather change.
While movie nights and s’mores by the bonfire will always be a good idea, here’s three reasons why an art gallery will be your new favorite go-to date night:
- Romantic Ambience Art galleries are designed to best showcase the art, so most of the light is directed at the walls holding the paintings. This means lots of low, reflected light – perfect for your glowing complexion and adding a bit of sparkle to your eyes. The cocoon-like feel of the space is relaxing, which makes it especially suited for conversation (yes, you can talk in an art gallery – it’s not a library). The art makes delightful conversation starters, and you may learn something about each other as you explore ideas you wouldn’t normally think about.
- Learn Together Two birds with one stone – you get a hot date with your sweetheart, and you learn something that’ll make your overbearing relatives drop the turkey at Thanksgiving in awe of your new fancy high-class taste. They might even acknowledge how you opted for Moscato instead of swiping the sparkling cider from the kiddy tables. At the very least, it’s a great way to meet local artists and become more well rounded as a person.
- Get A Souvenier Most galleries will have a small gift shop strategically placed at the front so even passersby can window shop for their artsy cousins. If you had to snap your date out of a trance from admiring one of the paintings, what better way to extend their delight than to get a postcard/magnet/etc. with a picture of that particular painting on it. Better yet, if you’re rich and spontaneous, go ahead and buy the painting. It might credit you some strikes in case you forget a birthday or anniversary.
